Winona State University (USA)
A group for single fathers attending college is in place at Winona State University, in Winona, Minnesota. Dedicated Academic Dads (DAD) meets two hours each week for lunch and discussion. The group is applying for student organization status and funding. The fathers have started a mothers group called Dedicated Academic Moms. Gar Kellom, the founder of the first men’s group on a college campus at Saint John’s University, in Collegeville, Minnesota, provides a safe space for college men to meet who are balancing school and work and fathering. The group currently involves about 20-25 students. The group is intentionally small and informal to permit it maximum independence and autonomy. It coordinates its meetings with the Day Care Center at the university.
